On Wednesday 15 May, members of the Whanganui Kindergarten Association (WKA) will vote on a proposal to amalgamate with He Whanau Manaaki o Tararua Free Kindergarten Association (HWM).
“This is a turning point for our association and we’re excited about possibilities amalgamation will bring” said Collette Redman, WKA president. “We want a strong and enduring future for kindergarten and believe amalgamating with HWM will position us well to achieve that aim across our diverse and growing communities.”
“For well over a year now, HWM has been supporting our management team and providing support and advice for teaching and learning through their professional advisors” said Trish Taylor Pope, WKA general manager. “As a medium size association operating fifteen services in Whanganui, Ohakune, Taihape and Waiouru, WKA has limited capability and capacity to invest in services to meet the rapidly changing needs of our local communities. Our work with HWM has demonstrated the benefits that come with being part of a larger organisation and having access to stable infrastructure and a wide range of professional and operational expertise and resources” she said.
“We approached HWM late last year seeking to amalgamate and set up a working group to explore the idea” said Trish Taylor Pope. The group recommended to the WKA governing board that WKA amalgamate with HWM. The board accepted the recommendation and is taking it to association members to vote on.
“We want kindergarten to be well-supported in each community, with highly professional teaching teams and kindergarten staff offering fantastic experiences for every child. That is at the heart of what we do” said Collette Redman. “Amalgamation means we can focus on what happens for every child each day in every kindergarten knowing our staff and services are well supported by HWM providing professional and organisational expertise.”
Parents and kindergarten friends are invited to attend to hear more about the proposal at meetings being hosted at each kindergarten over the next two weeks. Further information is also available at https://www.yourkindergarten.co.nz/about-us/amalgamation-process/
